A majority of Coalition Legal clients say they obtained a job and were able to afford better housing after getting their record expunged or sealed.

That’s the big news from our first survey of clients on their employment and housing status after adjudication.

“For years, we’ve heard anecdotally from clients that a clean record leads to new jobs and more stable housing, and now we have the data to support it,” said President/Managing Attorney Stephen Miller.

Here’s a look at the numbers:

  • 65% obtained a new job
  • 49% report wages increased
  • 47% obtained better housing
  • 61% able to afford better housing

We know more businesses are coming to Lake County and are thrilled to contribute to the workforce with job-ready candidates.

At the same time, we appreciate local leaders who are working to ensure attainable housing is available for all.

Good things are happening in Lake County, and, for many, it starts with a clean background check.
